Luxury brand Coach sues Oak Brook store over knockoff bags

There is news about the copyrighted designs. Luxury handbag-maker Coach filed a multimillion dollar federal lawsuit Friday against an Oak Brook boutique, claiming it sold $25 knockoff handbags sporting copyrighted designs.

The lawsuit claims an investigator for Coach visited Studio Ritz at 2215 York Rd. in Oak Brook on June 9 and saw about 12 suspected counterfeit products being offered for sale.

The store allegedly sold the investigator a $25 tan and blue handbag — later determined to be fake — bearing Coach's copyrighted designs, according to the lawsuit.

Coach claims the store does not have permission to use its designs and that the alleged infringement damages the brand's reputation, according to the lawsuit.

The 11-count lawsuit claims trademark counterfeiting, trademark and copyright infringement, consumer fraud and unjust enrichment among other charges. It seeks an injunction preventing Studio Ritz from selling the products.

The lawsuit also asks for either $2 million in statutory damages per alleged counterfeit mark or that the store pays Coach all profits earned from the goods.

In June, Coach filed a similar lawsuit against Tom's Treasure Chest in Gary, Ind., for allegedly selling $45 scam handbags, whose craftsmanship did not “meet Coach's high standards,” according to that suit.

Coach also sued the city of Chicago in May, claiming it found more than 300 counterfeit products at the Near West Side Maxwell Street Market, and that the city did not respond to a cease-and-desist order asking for cooperation in ending the illegal sales.

At the end of this news, we find some countries are still sale the handbags. We can find some wholesale from China, they supply wholesale designer handbags with high quality. So people can take a look at there. There are so cheap.
