How to Repair the Frames of Sunglasses

In addition to being stylish, sunglasses make for a much safer drive on sunny days. Because many people use sunglasses while active, they are prone to damage. While frame damage to sunglasses is common, some repairs can be made immediately with a few handy items that you might already have. A do-it-yourself repair saves you both time and money. It also can save a favorite pair of sunglasses from the garbage can.

1 Fix the frame. Make certain that the lenses are properly inserted and add a single drop of nail glue to the broken area. Hold the pieces together without touching the broken area for about 10 seconds. The glasses will hold until they can be replaced. Because most nail glue dries clear, you might not need to replace them.

2 Reattach the earpiece. If the earpiece has come off the glasses, make sure the problem isn't a missing screw. If necessary, replace the screw with the eyeglass kit. The kits contain an assortment of eyeglass screws, a small magnifying glass and a tiny screwdriver. To fix the earpiece, put it back into place, lining up the posts on the eyeglasses to the posts on the earpiece. Insert the screw from the top and screw it into place with the screwdriver.
If the screw coming loose is a recurring problem, add a drop of clear nail polish to the screw before you reinsert it.

3 Fix a bent frame by bending it gently back into place. Plastic and wire frames are vulnerable to bending if not stored in a hard case.
